Investita dal 1552 del feudo di Zangarone, aggregata al primo ordine civico della città di Matera, e decorata del titolo di marchese di Castrovalva con anzianità dal 1724, per successione de Roberto, riconosciuto con R. Res. 6 gennaio 1856. Ammessa nelle RR. Guardie del Corpo in persona di Nicola Santomaso nel 1836, ed in persona di Cesare nel 1853. La famiglia è iscritta nll'Elenco Ufficiale Italiano del 1922 col titolo di marchese di Castrovalva, in persona dei discendenti da Biagio riconosciuto in detto titolo con R. Rescritto 6 gennaio 1856. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
