Antica e nobile famiglia, originaria di Genova. Angela Maria Lercari, sorella di Cardinale Nicolò, sposò il 7 gennaio 1704 Anton Filippo Pombardi, nobile genovese. Da essi nacque il Marchese Agostino Pombardi che sposò il 21 marzo 1729 Anna Girolama Palombara, figlia di Morieno patrizio romano coscritto e di Anna Girolama del conte Gian Marcello Tarugi, patrizio romano. Da tale unione nacque il marchese Antonio Morieno Pombardi che, nel 1768, chiese ed ottenne la nobiltà romana, con Senatus Consulto del 7 settembre, di quell'anno. Il Pietramellara confuse questa famiglia con altra famiglia omonima, che fiorì nel secolo XV e XVI, e che era già estinta ai tempi del marchese Agostino Morieno. Infatti nel 1419 un Ambrogio, del quondam Ceccho Pombardi, fa testamento e nel 1523 in altro atto, figura Antonio Pombardi. Nel 1544 il cavaliere Iacovacci ricorda un Stephanus de Lombardis, dimorante in Mazzano. Questi Pombardi, portavano uno stemma partito inchiavato,
