Questa famiglia esisteva prima del secolo XV in Novi di Genova, ed aveva onorificenze. Fin dal 1587 in un istrumento rogato a Pavia, Cesare Pongileoni, di Antonio, viene qualificato nobile. Poco dopo quella data egli si trasferì a Correggio, dove fece acquisti di immobili e vi sposò una fanciulla di famiglia nobile di detta città. Mortovi nel fior degli anni, lasciò la sua famiglia in ottime condizioni economiche. Suo figlio Francesco sposò Livia Arisi, pure di famiglia nobile correggese, ed ebbe pubbliche cariche; ma morì in giovane età. Il figlio suo Cesare fu distinto giureconsulto; sposò in prime nozze Anna Bernardi, da cui ebbe due figli Francesco e Ippolita; ed in seconde nozze Cassandra di Ercole Donati, di nobile famiglia di Correggio, legata di affinità colla famiglia dei principi di Correggio, perchè suo padre Ercole Franchetti, moglie del principe Cosmo, fratello del princ. di Correggio.
