Ramo della illustre famiglia feudale polacca, nota dal XI secolo, derivata dall'antica Casa Lodzia. Le prime memorie autentiche risalgono ad un Giovanni Poninski, vivente nel 1387. Alberto Lodzia, signore di Ponin nel granducato di Posen, per il primo assunse il cognome di Poninski. Antonio Lodzia Poninski, procuratore generale della Corona, insieme ad altri, dopo la morte del re Augusto II non volle accettare l'elezione di Stanislao Lesczynscki, avvenuta nel 1733, e sostenendo la candidatura di Augusto di Sassonia, figlio del re defunto, costituì una Dieta a Kameniec sotto la sua presidenza e proclamò re di Polonia Augusto III. Adamo Mattia il 19 aprile 1773 s'impadronì della Presidenza della Dieta, ma fu accusato dal partito dei patrioti di aver venduto la patria agli stranieri e condannato come traditore insieme a suo nipote Calisto il 1 settembre 1790.
