Nobile famiglia veneziana, passata in Sicilia nel secolo XIV. Un Luigi nel 1395 ottenne conferma dei feudi San Giacomo di Belmineo e Solarino e fu senatore di Siracusa negli anni 1413-14, 1419-20. Non sappiamo se siano stati discendenti di detto Luigi un Ignazio che fu capitano di giustizia in Naro nel 1694-95; un Giuseppe proconservatore in Girgenti nel 1719; un Giuseppe, ufficiale maggiore della R. Tesoreria politica in Palermo, che nel 1812 ottenne, per il figlio suo Gaetano, la nomina a segretario referendario del regno di Sicilia. Un altro Giuseppe, discendente dal Giuseppe, proconservatore in Girgenti, ottenne a 3 sett. 1790 esecutoria del privilegio di concessione del titolo di marchese, titolo che portò un Luigi, tesoriere di Girgenti nel 1801-2 e che venne riconosciuto con D.M. del 14 aprile 1900 in persona di Luigi Filippo (di Maurizio, di Luigi) che fu deputato al Parlamento e senatore del Regno e con
