Ancient and noble Spanish family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. According to what has been handed down, this lineage is originally from Bizcaia and, more precisely, from the Mundaka, a municipality in the Guernica district. Among the most illustrious family members, we have to mention Rodrigo de Portuondo (?- 1529), General of the Galleys of Spain in the time of King Carlos I. Appointed Captain General of the four galleys of the fleet of the kingdom of Granada, in 1529 he was entrusted with the guarding of these coasts, dying in the battle of Formentera, in front of the islet of Espalmador on October 25, 1529, fighting against the Turkish privateer Hardín Cachidiablo, whom he had been looking for to put an end to his misdeeds.
