Antichissima e notabile famiglia di cui si hanno notize sin dal XV secolo in Parma con un Mastro Giovanni, ingegnere collaudatore delle riparazioni alla Rocca di Contorno, successivamente un Messer Filippo, nominato erede universale dal Pittore A. Araldi nel 1528, donò la mentovata copia del Cenacolo alla Congregazione della Disciplina Vecchia dei SS Cosmo e Damiano à dì 8 aprile 1530. Questo cognome, sicuramente antichissimo, dovrebbe derivare dal nome della Gens Portia o dal nomen latino Porcius, Portius e le relative versioni femminili, probabili nomi dei capostipiti.
