Antica ed assai nobile famiglia della Bretagna, oriunda dall'Olanda, ove un ramo fiorì altrettanto nobilmente, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa. Il primo personaggio di cui si ha novella è un Robin, il quale ratificò il trattato di Guérande nel 1380. Numerosi membri di tal famiglia furono "bannerets" ossia cavalieri possidenti una castellania e con una compagnia di uomini d'armi. Proprio su queste terre la famiglia ottenne il titolo ducale e principesco. Il ramo dei Pot fiorente nel Limosino, già fregiato del titolo di Visconti di Bridiers, ottenne il marchesato con il predicato di Rhodes nel 1715. I sui membri ebbero l'onorifica carica di maestri cerimonieri nel XVI secolo e di Gran Cerimonieri di Francia, dal 1585 al 1684. Un altro ramo della stessa fiorì in Borgogna ed ivi, nel 1502, fu fregiato del titolo comitale. A lungo i suoi membri servirono
