Antigua y muy noble familia toscana, con residencia en Florencia, en el distrito de Santa Maria Novella y la bandera roja del León, que se extendió a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia y, principalmente, en el Reino de Sicilia. La clara nobleza de la familia se confirma por su presencia, como lo atestigua el historiador Giuliani Tiribelli, en el "Resumen histórico de las famosas familias toscanas, revisado por el Caballero Luigi Passerini", publicado en Florencia en 1862, y en la valiosa "Colección Papam Ceramelli", constituida durante muchos años por Enrico Ceramelli Papiani (1896-1976), que es un fondo preservado en los Archivos Estatales de Florencia y compuesto por casi 8000 archivos, dirigido a familias toscanas de origen antiguo, que proporcionan noticias genealógicas y heráldicas extraídas de fuentes de archivo conservadas en el Archivo Florentino o en otros institutos de archivo o en bibliotecas de la región.
