Assai antica è questa patrizia famiglia veneziana, originaria di Jesolo, e che dette alla patria i primi tribuni. Nel 1205 fu aggregata al Gran Consiglio, e nel 1328 acquistò dodici carati dell'isola di Ceos nell'Arcipelago, di cui tenne il dominio sino al 1537, nel qual tempo quell'isola fu occupata dai Turchi. Quando il governo veneto comprò l'isola di Negroponte, la famiglia P. andò ad abitarvi, e dopo la perdita di quella passò in Candia, dove dimorò fino alla caduta di quel regno in potere dei Turchi, dopo di che, colle altre famiglie della colonia fece ritorno a Venezia. Un Nicolò fu uno de'sopracomiti o governatori delle galee mandate contro il Barbarossa nel 1177; Ruggero P. fu uno dei quaranta che nel 1178 elessero doge Aurio Mastropiero; nel 1192 capitano nell'armata che a Pola sconfisse i Pisani, nel 1202 uno dei 49 governatori delle galee che sotto il comando di Enrico
