Ancienne famille Aquila et l'une des plus puissantes à diriger les factions politiques du XIVe siècle. Il a pris le nom d'un Pretatto qui a vécu au XIIIe siècle. Francesco-Antonio est l'homme le plus connu. Il a tenté de remettre la ville d'Aquila entre les mains du pape Urbain VI alors qu'il était dégoûté de la reine Giovanna Prima, mais échouant le coup, il a pris l'interdiction, se soutenant avec les armes de ses partisans. En 1381, cependant, Rainaldo Orsini, lié à la faction royale, contribua à la reddition de Pretatti, qui se rendit à Aquila et se fit couper la tête.
