Very ancient family, which, to say the least of illustrious genealogists, descends from the noble Vitali family. A member of the latter, in fact, entering the priesthood, would have been called "pré Vitali", and with this surname, later on, his relatives were called. In any case, from some heraldic texts, it appears that the Previtali were ascribed to the Patrician of Messina and invested with the feudal baronies of Foresto and Gabelle; moreover, until 1473, they belonged to the Senate of said city. Later the memories of the Previtali are lost in Messina but reappear, after many years, in Bergamo, through the glory of the famous painter Andrea (Berbenno, c. 1480 - Bergamo, 1528). The latter preferred to follow the manner of Raphael and Vinci rather than that of Bellini, from which he learned the divine art of painting the madonnas. The Academy of Fine Arts in Venice preserves this
