Ritenuta da alcuni autori originaria di Pisa, passata nel Napoletano nel XIII secolo. Patrizio di Salerno nelle Piazze di Campo e Portaretese e patrizio di Lucera. Dette alla Chiesa un pontefice: Urbano VI (13789) al secolo Bartolomeo, figlio di Nicolò e di Margherita Brancaccio. Furono ricevuti, per giustizia, nel S. M. O. di Malta nel 1578 come quarto della famiglia Strambrone; ed i Prignano di Sanseverino nel 1598 come quarto della famiglia Ruggi; ed ancora quelli di Salerno nel 1730 come quarto del commendatore Gennaro Salerno, avendone fatta la prova da Roberto primo stipite nel 1485. Fu ascritta al Registro delle Piazze Chiuse. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle
