Antica ed illustre famiglia, di origine siciliana. Un Pietro fu giurato di Siracusa negli anni 1401-2, 1426-27; un Giovanni tenne la stessa carica negli anni 1402-3, 1407-8, 1410-11, 1414-15, 1427-28, 1434-35, 1442-43; un Maggiotta negli anni 1432-33, 1440-41; un Francesco nel 1462-63; un messer Mantuano è iscritto nella Mastra Nobile del Mollica; un Antonio acquistò la salina di Calaci o della Corte, della quale fu investita il 21 gennaio 1741; un altro Antonino, nipote del precedente, ne ebbe investitura il 30 settembre 1762. Nel ruolo del donativo del 1806 è notato come barone della salina di Calaci o della Corte un Giovanni Prinzi. La famiglia è iscritta nell' Elenco Ufficiale Nobile Italiano, col titolo di barone della salina di Calaci (mpr.). Altro ramo. Ha goduto nobiltà nella città di Messina, nel XVI secolo.
