Convengono tutti gli autori che fosse conferita la nobiltà veneta verso il 1100 a Silvestro Priuli, cavaliere e capitano nella Prima Crociata, figlio di Zaccaria, priore d'Ungheria, figlio a sua colta di Michele, princ. d'Ungheria della famiglia degli Arpad, il quale, inviato dalla corona d'Ungheria a Venezia per importanti maneggi col Senato vi fermò la su residenza. Nella serrata del Maggior Consiglio (1297) la famiglia Priuli restò esclusivamente dallo stesso, ma vi fu tosto riammessa nel 1310 in persona di Niccolò, provveditore in Dalmazia e podestà di Treviso per i meriti acquistati in occasione della congiura di Baiamonte Tiepolo; è questi il capostipite comune a tutti i rami della famiglia che fiorì poi fra le principali della Repubblica Veneta. Nei vari rami in cui successivamente si divise, si annoverarono: Tre dogi di Venezia: Lorenzo Savio agli ordini, ambasciatore a Carlo V, che fu creato doge nel 1556. Morì nel 1559,
