Desde los tiempos de don Jaime I de Aragón figuran los caballeros P. con acusado relieve en las historias de aquel reino, por los muchos y buenos servicios que prestaron a los monarcas aragoneses. Juan de P. era señor de la isla y ciudad de P., en el reinado de Manfredo, de Sicilia, y fue uno de los caballeros que, a la muerte de dicho rey, vinieron a la conquista de la ciudad y reino de Valencia. Don Pedro III de Aragón, en premio a la ayuda que había prestado a su padre, le dio, en 1281 las villas de Enchent, Benisano y Palma, y después le confirió para toda su vida el oficio de gran canciller de Sicilia, según consta por el privilegio real expedido en Barcelona a 2 de las calendad de febrero de 1288, oficio que más tarde le confirmó don Alfonso III, por instrumento ortorgado en Huesca a 3 de las nonas de agosto de 1288. También don Jaime II de Aragón le premio donándole la tierra de Sicli y unas casas en la ciudad de Valencia, que habían sido del obispo de Huesca.
