La moderna critica storica ha, sulla scorta sicura dei documenti, fatto ragione delle artificiose ricostruzioni genealogiche di quegli scrittori che, per compiacente spirito d'adulazione, pretesero far discendere i Pucci di Firenze da nobili e antiche prosapie come quella de' Saracini, che avrebbe avuto rappresentanti tra i campioni di Firenze nella battaglia di Montaperti nel 1260. Ed ha, invece, identificato il capostipite di questa famiglia, pur così illustre anche se non d'origini guerriere e magnatizie, in un Puccio, di Benintendi, ricordato come arbitro in due lodi peritali per stime di beni rispettivamente del 1264 e 1287, e che esercitò l'arte del legnaiuolo; i cui discendenti, essendosi sempre mostrati ligi e devoti alla potente famiglia dei medici, ottennero col favore di questa di poter ascriversi alle Arti maggiori, conseguendo così le più altre cariche civiche e grandi ricchezze. V; "Raccolta Ceramelli Papiani" custodita presso l'archivio di stato di Firenze fasc.3869. Note: l'inquartato con l'arme della famiglia Filicaia fu con un Raffaello Pucci il quale aggiunse lo stemma e il cognome Filicaia nel 1856, per testamento della zia materna Elisabetta da Filicaia.
