Le più antiche notizie storiche su questa famiglia, oriunda da Montepulciano e che si chiamò già dei "Franceschi", risalgono ai primi anni del secolo XIII, sullo scorcio del quale vissero Giliotto e Francesco suo figlio, rispettivamente avo e padre di un Puccio, al quale si riferisce un atto del 24 novembre 1274 contenuto nel libro denominato "Le Coppe" della Comunità di Montepulciano per comprare nell'interesse di questo alcuni terreni boschivi e prativi, nonchè certi diritti sui terreni paludosi e sulle della Chiana, nel distretto di Montepulciano in contrada di Pieve San Vincenzo del Greppo e di Macchia Calcinaria, a confine colle proprietà del comune di Cortona e di quelli di Torrita e Montepulciano.
