Assai antico ed illustre casato, discendente dalla illustre ebraica famiglia, Yahya, di remote origini saracene, la quale passò a risiedere, primieramente, in Portogallo, ove fiorì quel Yahya ibn Ya'ish, scomparso intorno al 1150, il quale fu Visir del Re Alfonso I, e, successivamente, in Spagna ed in Italia. Dal detto Visir discesero eminenti personaggi, distintisi nelle scienze mediche, nelle umane lettere e nella religione; tra i molti, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Ya'ish ibn Yachya (Lisbona, 1180 - Lisbona, 1227), primo rabbino capo del Portogallo, leader militare per Alfonso I, re di Portogallo, il quale lo fece Signore di Unhos Freitas Aldeia dos Negros e gli concesse il titolo di Don; Joseph ibn Yaḥya ben David, nato nel 1425, il quale fu intimo amico di Alfonso V, il quale lo chiamava "l'astuto ebreo"; Reuben ibn Yaḥya ben Solomon Hezekiah, nato il Lugo, sul calar del XVII secolo,
