Charles Emanuele III, king of Sardinia, with diplomas on August 25, 1741 granted Antonio Simone Puddu, from Gesturi, and his male children and descendants, the titles of knight and nobleman, as well as the use of noble weapons. Weapons: Truncated: in the first golden one to a natural rooster: to the second one of red with three golden cords, in three bands, loaded with six sheets of plain white paper, astride the ropes, three on the top, two on the middle one, one on the bottom. From him descend the noble families, residing in Gesturi, Cagliari and Siddi. Some members of this family, Don Antonio Simone, Don Efisio, Don Antonio, Don Raffaele and Don Vincenzo, are included in the Official List of nobles and knights residing in the ancient province of Isili, compiled in 1822 by the R. Prefetto and sent to the R Secretary of State and War at the Viceroy of Sardinia. Therefore the male descendants are entitled to the knight, noble and don: the females the personal titles of noble and woman. The presence of the weapon and the motto in the documented bibliography of the Puddu family confirms the ancestral nobility reached by the family. In fact, the origin of the motto dates back to around the 14th century and must be sought in those witty sayings that were written on the banners or flags of the knights, displayed on the windows of the inns where they stayed, during the tournaments, and during the tournaments themselves . The motto was a thought expressed in a few words, alluding to a clear or hidden feeling, to a quality, to a historical memory, as a stimulus to courage or honor.
