Antica famiglia sarda, detta Pugioni o Puggioni, di chiara e provata nobiltà, con residenza nella città di Cagliari, le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XVIII. L'avvocato Antonio Pugione nel 1760 ottenne in enfiteusi Flumini di Quartu, per impiantarvi una peschiera e, alcuni anni dopo, acquistò anche la peschiera di Portovecchio, morendo poco dopo. Nel 1774, però, la sua vedova ottenne il cavalierato ereditario per sé ed i suoi figli. In ogni modo, tal casato, sia anteriormente che posteriormente al 1774, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Antonio, deputato, insieme con Saladino de Lacon, del municipio di Sassari e sindaco per la pace tra Leonora ed il re di Aragona, nel 1388; Giuliano, valoroso gentiluomo cagliaritano, fiorito al principio del XVI secolo, il quale militò sotto i vessilli del re di Aragona; Antonio, nato in Cagliari e vissuto nel secolo XVII,
