Antica famiglia fiorentina, detta anche Pulejo, Pulei o de Puleo, e portata in Messina, nell'anno 1500, dal magnifico Cesare P. Artale, che fu ascritto alla Mastra de'nobili di Messina nel 1556. Idem Sebastiano, nel 1664, ed il capitano Antonio nel 1665. Passata poi a Santa Lucia del Mela, la famiglia fu ascritta pure a quella nobiltà ed ivi un Tommaso tenne la carica di proconservatore, nel 1726. D'altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che resero illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare. Fra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, contasi: Nicola, chiaro giureconsulto, vivente in Messina, nel 1589; Tommaso, dottore in Sacra Teologia, vivente in Messina, nel 1639; Giacomo, maestro di campo in Messina, vivente nel 1656; Cesare, milite di professione, vivente in Messina, nel 1754; Biagio, dottore in ambo
