Família muito antiga e muito famosa, originalmente de Cava dei Tirreni, que eu queria derivar de um cavaleiro de Salerno, que na época de Guaimaro IV, príncipe de Salerno, com quarenta exércitos normandos, convidados da cidade, retornando da Terra Santa, encontrando-se em defesa de um dos portões saiu contra os sarracenos, que cercaram Salerno e os derrotaram. Por esse mérito, o Cavaleiro "dei Quaranta" possuía uma vasta propriedade entre Salerno e Cava de'Trenreni, onde a família se estabeleceu e onde mais tarde fundou a Igreja da SS. Quarenta mártires, tornando-se uma das famílias mais prestigiadas de Salerno e Cava. Então, no período normando, a Casale Quaranta (século XII) foi construída em torno de sua vila. Com a chegada da dinastia Angevin, vários ramos da família se mudaram para Nápoles, onde eram patrícios dos assentos de Forcella e Porto. No XIV, o ramo do Seggio do Porto foi cúmplice na conspiração
