Erano detti anticamente della Porta Sant'Orso perchè la loro casa era situata all'ingresso della città sopra la porta romana, detta porta della Trinità, e perchè essi esercitavano i loro diritti di giurisdizione sulle case o terre del borgo di Sant'Orso. Nel 1185 presero il titolo di cavalieri signori di Quart, castello che in quell'anno fece fabbricare Giacomo di Quart. Questa famiglia à dato tre Vescovi alla città d'Aosta: Aimore dal 1176 al 1191; Emerico creato nel 1300, il quale dopo la sua morte fu innalzato all'onore degli altari col titolo di beato; ed un altro Emerico creato nel 1358. Aimone, della stessa famiglia, fu Vescovo di Ginevra. Di questa famiglia non si hanno più notizie dal 1378.
