L'origine de cette famille est des plus certaines, mais elle se trouve extrêmement embrouillée à cause d'un grand nombre de membres qu'il n'est pas possible de relier entre eux par une filiation commune et régulière. Parmi les membres les plus célèbres on signale: Jean-Claude, sénéchal de Léon, petit-fils d'un capitaine des vaisseaux du Roi en 1627, anobli en 1755 à l'occasion de l'érection a Rennes de la statue de Louis XV; un major de vaisseaux en 1786, fusillé à Quiberon en 1795. La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette noble famille.
