Família de Castela, com solar nas montanhas de Burgos. Passou a Portugal na pessoa de Diogo Dias de Q., da Casa do Infante D. Pedro, Duque de Coimbra, em cuja companhia veio quando se recolhue ao Reino da sua viagem por vários países. Diogo de Q. era da casa de morgado de Laredo, no vale de Gincha, junto do lugar de Santa Olalha, e foi pai de outro de igual nome, a quem, D. Afonso V tomou por seu vassalo em 12 de Janeiro de 1406 com 4900 reais. Este teve por filho a Jorge de Cabedo, que se casou em Setúbal com D. Teresa Pinheiro filha de João Pires, da família dos Menagens e de sua mulher, D. Leonor Rodrigues Pinheiro, com geração que seguiu o apelido, deturpado em Cabedo. Do segundo Diogo Dias de Q. também nasceu Gonçalo Dias de Q. cujos descendentes continuaram a usar o apelido
