Derivata dalla antica e nobile famiglia d'Aquino, prese il nome di Acerra dalla contea di questo nome concessa da Ferderico II Imperatore a Tommaso d'Aquino che fu Vicerè di tutto il regno di Napoli. Un altro Tommaso, terzo conte di Acerra, ebbe per moglie una sorella di Re Manfredi che investì di parecchi feudi in Terra di Lavoro e in Terra d'Otranto. Adinolfo, quarto ed ultimo conte di Acerra, caduto in disgrazia di re Carlo d'Angiò, fu fatto da questo morire nel 1294, ed i suoi beni tutti, compresavi la contea, furono confiscati. Altro ramo. Derivata dalla famiglia d'Aquino, prese il nome di Acerra dalla contea di questo nome concessa da Ferderico II Imperat. a Tommaso d'Aquino che fu Vicerè di tutto il regno di Napoli. Un altro Tommaso, terzo conte di Acerra, ebbe per moglie una sorella di Re Manfredi che investì di parecchi feudi in Terra di Lavoro
