Apellido castellano. De Laredo, en la provincia de Santander, desde donde se extendió por la Península. A este linaje perteneció una antigua familia pobladora y conquistadora de la isla de El Hierro, deudos cercanos de Cristóbal Q., quien acompañó a Cristóbal Colón en su primer viaje a América, como propietario "La Pinta". Tres ramas se han destacado en esta familia, que dieron a Canarias muchos hijos ilustres. La primera fue la de Magdaleno, que es la primogénita, oriunda de Castilla la Vieja, lugar de Losa, de la antigua merindad de Burgos, donde ganó ejecutoria de nobleza Alonso de Magdaleno Q., que luego se avecindó en la isla de El Hierro. En ella contrajo matrimonio con Doña Clara Machín de Arteaga, descendiente del vizcaíno Juan Machín de Arteaga, que acompañó en el año 1454 a Don Diego García de Herrera. La segunda familia canaria de este apellido, fue la de Q.Magdaleno,
