Es originario de la Montaña de Santander. Su casa solar estaba a la entrada del lugar de Carasa, perteneciente al Ayuntamiento de Junta de Voto y partido judicial de Laredo. Así consta en el expediente del Caballero de Santiago don Fernando Arredondo y de R., natural de Barruelo, lugar del Ayuntamiento de Valle de Ruesga y partido judicial de Ramales, Coronel de Milicias, vecino de Guadalajara, en Nueva Galicia, y nieto de don Juan de R., dueño de la citada casa de su apellido en Carasa. Una de sus líneas residió en el lugar de Udalla, del partido de Laredo, y de ella fueron Francisco y Pedro de R. Gómez ,que probaron su hidalguía en el año 1792, y otra en el lugar de Guriezo, del partido de Castro Urdiales, a la que perteneció Vicente Manuel de R., que hizo igual probanza en 1762 para pasar a Cádiz, donde se avecindó.
