Antica famiglia di origine Toscana. Furono Conti di Cammarata di origine Lucchese, trapiantati in Sicilia nel 1237. Trae questa famiglia, infatti, origine dalla città di Lucca da dove passò in Palermo ed in Catania. Un Giovanni comprò a 19 febbraio 1405 in notaro Lorenzo de Naro di Catania da Raimondo de Falgar la baronia di Cefalà, che gli venne da Re Martino confermata a 27 giugno 1406 e la quale, nell'anno 1429, ottenne di popolare. A lui succedette il figlio Giovanni che comprò da potere di Guglielmo Raimondo Moncada, in seguito a licenza di Re Alfonso, la terra di Cammarata per atto presso notar Pietro de Busaldano di Valenza a 11 settembre 1431 ed ottenne, alla morte del padre, la conferma della baronia di Cefalà a 27 giugno 1453. Sposò in prime nozze Giovanna Chiaramonte e Ventimiglia ed in seconde Eulalia la Grua dalla quale fra gli altri ebbe:
