Originaria della Catalogna, fu portata in Sicilia 1° da Bernardo che vi andò nel 1439 vicerè per Re Alfonso I d'Aragona e che fu il ceppo dei Requesens principi di Pantelleria e conti di Buscemi e Ragalmuto; 2° da Berlingarlo generale della squadra delle galere di Sicilia, dal quale discesero i Requesens baroni di S. Giacomo che si estisero nel XVI secolo. Un Calcerano Requesens ne stabilì un ramo a Napoli, che ebbe la contea di Avellino e di Trivento e la signoria di Ruvo, e che si estinse nel 1506. Oltre i summenzionati, questa casa à posseduto i feudi di Acireale, Avigliano, Balchino, Boscorotondo, Candida, Castelmazzano, CHisano, Guffari, Ischia, Lanfranco, Mazzarone, Nadore, Recalbono, Sanpaolo, Santangelo in Grisone, Santomango, Scordia soprana, SOLARINO, Stafenda e Ventimiglia, e le contee di Agosta, Befalei, Jaci, Sarno e Salerno.
