Nobilissima famiglia piemontese, con residenza nella città di Torino, che la leggenda vuole far discendere da quel Manfredo XII, di Brozolo, il quale ricevette dal re Arduino, di cui parrebbe averne sposata una figlia, i beni della distrutta abazia benedettina di Vezzolano, fra i quali: Vezzolano, Brozolo, Radicata, Cocconato, Aramengo, Albugnano, Cavagnolo, Montiglio, Cossombrato e Monteu da Po. In ogni modo, quel che è certo, è che la famiglia appare nobilissima sin dal 1100 e, inoltre, è nota la conferma di feudi a questa famiglia, in persona del conte Ottobono R., fatta dall'imperatore Federico di Honenstaufen, il 5 marzo 1186, la quale già presuppone precedenti investiture imperiali, e la sua riconferma fatta dall'imperatore Federico II di Hoenstaufen, il 3 novembre 1249, a ad Alamanno R. e consorti, colla quale agli altri privilegi si aggiungeva quello della zecca "aurum et argentum cudendi et in formam pecuniae redigendi".
