Secondo la tradizione provengono dai conti Rossi di Parma, dei quali due fratelli, stabilitisi a Levanto ed a Rapallo, avrebbero assunto il cognome Raggi; e la loro discendenza si sarebbe ripartita in Valle Sturla, a Voltaggio ed a Genova. In questa città Gio. Pietro fu consigliere (1172); Guido intervenne alla pace tra genovesi e pisani (1188) ed altri parteciparono ai Consigli degli Anziani nei secoli XIV e XV. Francesco fu eletto ad assoldare una compagnia di cavalli per custodia del palazzo senatorio in Genova (1359); Paolo qm., Nicolò, fu nominato ministro in Caffa (1455), ma non è certo egli abbia esercitato tale carica; Nicolò qm. Gio. Antonio, valoroso comandante di cavalleria al servizio veneto, fu preso dai Turchi, che lo uccisero dopo atroci tormenti perchè non volle abiurare la fede cattolica (1466); Antonio, Luca e Battista intervennero alla dichiarazione di fedeltà giurata al duca di Milano Gian Galeazzo Sforza (1488);
