Antica ed assai nobile famiglia toscana da Firenze detta Ragni o Ragno propagata, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia che alzò per arma: D'oro, alla croce d'azzurro accantonata da quattro palle dello stesso. Altra famiglia. Dal censimento dei Baroni e feudatari del Napoletano per l'anno 1670, la Casata figura negli elenchi dei potenti baroni della Provincia di Terra di Bari. Essa estese il suo dominio su vaste terre e fu tenuta in alto onore dai Normanni e dagli Svevi, dagli Angioini e dagli Aragonesi dai quali ebbe feudi e privilegi in compenso dei servigi resi. Un ramo baronale della Casata si stabilì a Giovinazzo e fu aggregato a quel Patriziato. Il fasto e le gesta antiche della presente famiglia accompagnata con la scarzezza delle scritture non lascia scorgere il prinicipio della sua nobiltà; e perciò a ragione gli scrittori e ricercatori confessono con tutta la loro investigazione
