Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Robin, conseiller et chambellan des ducs Jean II, Artur II et Jean III, mort en 1320, père de Robin, dit le Jeune, et aïeul de Robin, l'un des chevaliers du combat des Trente en 1350, marié à Jeanne de Dinan, dame de la Bellière. De ce mariage: Guillaume, tué à la bataille d'Auray en 1634, marié à Jeanne de Montfort; Tiphaine, première femme de Bertrand du Guesclin. Jean, tué à la bataille d'Azincourt en 1415; Jean, maréchal de Bretagne en 1450; Gilles, abbé du Tronchet en 1437, mort en 1473. Cette famille, substituée au XVème siècle aux nom et armes de Malestroit par alliance avec l'héritière de cette terre, a fini à Françoise, dame de Malestroit, de Châteaugiron et de Derval, nariée à Jean de Rieux, maréchal de Bretagne en 1461, et à Jeanne sa sœur, dame de la Bellière et de Combourg, mariée en 1462 à Tanguy du Chastel.
