Antica e notabile famiglia campana scritta Rajola o Raiola, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Di questa casata notiamo un Don Pio Rajola da Gircolano, canonico vivente nel XVI secolo; un Dominicus Rajola dottore in l'una e l'altra legge vivente nel 1722. Secondo alcune ricostruzioni araldica, essa sarebbe una diramazione italiana del nobile casato francese da Marsiglia Rayolle, del quale gli si attribuisce infatti l'alias. In ogni modo, i primi riferimenti alla famiglia si hanno già nel secolo decimo sesto, comparendo alcuni Raiola in qualità di proprietari terrieri nel Regno di Napoli. D’altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare.
