Família antiga e muito nobre originária do território de Novara e, mais precisamente, de Borgomanero, espalhada ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália, com um grande assentamento na Puglia onde o advogado Giuseppe, vice-prefeito de Taranto desde 1924-1927, de o falecido Pietro, ele foi premiado com o título de conde. A origem deste sobrenome, segundo genealogistas de autoridade, deve ser buscada em uma forma hipocorística do cajado medieval "Ramus", provavelmente pertencente a um progenitor desconhecido hoje. Em todo o caso, esta família, ao longo das décadas, conseguiu sempre produzir uma série de homens que tornaram o seu nome célebre, no emprego público, nas profissões liberais e eclesiásticas e no serviço militar. Entre estes, sem tirar nada do valor das omissões, contam-se: D. Bartolomeo, cónego, que em Borgomanero fundou uma capela para a invocação de San Filippo Neri, em memória da devolução da capela Ramellini, em 3 de julho
