La famiglia è originaria di Genova. Appartenne alla prima categoria dei Gonfalonieri di Gualdo Tadino con rango di Ill.mus Dominus. Nel 1486 Lucio, fu Priore. Il 26 novembre 1501 Francesco fu Gonfaloniere e rettore del Sacro Monte di Pietà, carica questa occupata il 14 gennaio 1514 da Claudio. Ha la cappella gentilizia nella chiesa di S. Francesco in Gualdo. Francescangelo, fu Gonfaloniere e delegato alle onoranze al Pontefice Giulio III quando transitò per Gualdo Tadino. Nel 1655 ottennero l'ascrizione al patriziato di Assisi. Trassero i natali da questa famiglia magistrati, governatori, notai, podestà sacerdoti, missionari, insegnanti, un vescovo, una guardia nobile di Napoleone I a Mosca ed un giudice delegato per le cause politiche dei Carbonari e che fu onorato del titolo di Visconte. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo
