Alte und berühmte Familie von Perugia, deren Stammvater Uberto ist, der um 970 lebte und von dem einige von den Markgrafen von Monferrato abstammen wollten, während verschiedene Dokumente ihre sächsische Herkunft belegen würden. Umbertos Söhne hatten jedoch die Herrschaft über das Land Fratta, heute Umbertide, das in Dokumenten dieser Zeit in anderen Posterioren immer als „Fracta filiorum Uberti“ bezeichnet wird. Zwischen dem 12. und 13. Jahrhundert teilte sich diese Linie in vier Zweige, von denen der älteste Sohn in Perugia blieb und die anderen sich in Orvieto, Gubbio und Ragusa in Dalmatien niederließen. Von diesen starben der Zweig von Orvieto und Gubbio aus und der von Ragusa zog im Jahr 1100 nach Venedig, wodurch die berühmte Familie Renier entstand, zu der auch Paolo gehörte, der vorletzte Doge dieser Republik. Nur der Zweig von Perugia blieb übrig, und der Zweig, der sich in Forlì niederließ und möglicherweise aus der gleichen Linie
