Nobilissimo casato, di pisani natali, ove fu tra le più ferme famiglie di fazione ghibellina, il quale, rifiutando l'aspra dominazione fiorentina, passò in Sicilia, godendo, dunque, nobiltà in Messina, Palermo e Noto. Un Giacomo da Caltabellotta, giurisperito, avvocato fiscale, ottenne dai Martini concessione del feudo Sahuna; un Francesco, dottore in leggi, fu nobile in Mesina, marito di Antonia Grugno e padre di Giovan Francesco, che fu giudice della Corte straticoziale di Messina negli ani 1572-73, 1575-76, 1577-78, della Gran Corte Civile negli anni 1573-74-75, 1579-80-81, presidente del tribunale del R.Patrimonio, avvocato fiscale della Gran Corte e poi presidente dello stesso tribunale, luogotenente di maestro giutiziere nel 1591, deputato del Regno negli anni 1594, 1597, 1603, 1609; acquistò la baronia di Gallina e ne ebbe investitura il 23 sett. 1600; sposò Antonia Gromaldi; un Barnaba Rao Bascone ebbe il 16 dic. 1587 infeudazione del territorio chiamato Gialfamuto; un Marcantonio, dottore in
