Forse questo lignaggio dalla incerta etimologia non è originario delle nostre Valli, per quanto vi compaia nella seconda metà del '300. E' probabile che gli stipiti di esso sieno venuti, con i Cornetti e altri bergamaschi e valsesiani, nelle Valli di Lanzo per lavorare nelle miniere e nelle fonderie. Difatto il primo cenno a un R. da noi trovato nelle pergamene della Castellania, è allusivo a un lavoro minerario. Si tratta di Giordano repello, che nel 1377 insieme con un Giovanni robeto e un corneto, entrò in uno scavo detto di picolato, contro gli Ordinamenti. I R. dovevano essere forse più antichi in Val Grande: trovammo cenno nel 1399-400 dei fratelli Francesio e Gioanni de rappello (forse di Cantoira ) che vendettero beni a Giovanni boverio: e negli stessi anni un Guglielmo de rapello pagò 2 capponi al Castellano di Lanzo per avere la tutela dei figli del suo defunto
