Le prime memorie di questa nobile famiglia rimontano al 1180, in cui formava parte della società nobile d'Albergo, che amministrava la piccola repubbica di Savigliano, nelle persone di Oddino, Oggerino, Giovanni, Nicolino ed Amelio Rapparelli. Nel 1240 un Guglielmo ed un Oddone erano alla testa della fazione guelfa. Questa casa à posseduto molte signorie, fra le quali il castello di Maresco, Genola, Lagnasco e Tigliole con titolo comitale, ed Azeglio con titolo marchionale pervenutole nel XVIII secolo per matrimonio Il titolo di conte fu dato nel 1610 a Giovanni-Anselmo Rapparelli di Genola, e nel 1622 a Benedetto di Lagnasco da Carlo Emanuele I, ed il primo a portare il titolo di marchese d'Azeglio fu Cesare, morto nel 1833. Questa casa si divise in tre rami, di cui furono capostipiti Petrino, Leone e Goffredo figli di Giorgio. Il primo fondò quello di Lagnasco, il secondo quello di Maresco, estinto nel 1555,
