Questa nobile, e antica famiglia dalla Ratta, è molto probabile ch'ella abbia tratto questo cognome dal Co. Diego della Ratta, Principe di Caserta, Generale del re Roberto. e Co. della Romagna quale nel 1300 trasportò a Barcellona sua patria, nel Regno di Napoli la sua nobile discendenza, che è stata delle prime del detto Regno e imparentata col sangue regno d'Aragona, allora che nel 1317 da governo di Ferrara, passò a Bologna vedendosi che solo dopo quel tempo usò questa famiglia il Cognome Ratta, e prese l'arma del Grifo rosso, che è un mezzo Leone simile a quella del Co.
