Fiorì questa Famiglia nella Repubblica di Pisa tra le famiglie nobili, ricche, e potenti; Ma crolando poi, mercè d'haver prese l'armi contra la Romana Chiesa, e Sede Apostolica, in servigio dell'Imperador Federico II quella famosa Repubblica, oppressa dalle continue guerre civili, e esterne, la predetta Famiglia Raus, con molt'altre fuggendo il dominio Fiorentino, se nè passò con ricchezze in Sicilia, e in Messina si stabilì con le solite negotiationi de' Pisani. Però il primo, che di lei ritroviamo è Francesco Raus, che si congiunse in parentela con la casa Saccano, e procreò Giacomo Raus Barone del feudo della mezza Sigona, acquistò pur egli la metà delli feudi di Sambuca, e Francavilla nel territorio Leontino, i quali essendo della Corte, il Rè Martino nel 1396 ne diede la metà al predetto Giacomo Raus e l'altra metà à Giacomo Campolo, con conditione però, che dopo la morte del detto di Raus, succedesse
