Famiglia sassarese di origine spagnola le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XV. Nella seconda metà del secolo un Antonio ebbe l'ufficio ereditario di ricevitore del riservato; suo nipote il dottor Antonio ebbe anche l'ufficio di maestro razionale nel 1558 e nello stesso anno fu ammeso allo stamento militare durante il parlamento Madrigal. Da allora i Ravaneda furono presenti in tutti gli altri parlamenti. Dal 1585 con Francesco, la famiglia ebbe ereditariamente l'ufficio di maestro razionale; i figli suoi formarono due diversi rami: Francesco formò il ramo cagliaritano che però si estine nel corso del secolo XVII. Pietro l'altro dei figli, ereditò le signorie di Montemaggiore, Thiesi e Bessude e nel 1607 ottenne il riconoscimento della nobiltà. Suo figlio Pietro nel 1635 ebbe i feudi elevati in marchesato e nel 1639 rinunciò all'ufficio di maestro razionale.
