Famiglia lombarda, di antica e nobile virtù, detta Ravasi, Ravasio o, più anticamente, Ravais, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Delle origini di questo casato non vi sono notizie certe, essendo due le ipotesi storiche, A riguardo. La prima vuole che siano di origine longobarda e che abbiano tratto il nome da un ignoto capostipite, chiamato "Ravaxius" o "Ravasius"; la seconda, e noi concordiamo con quest'ultima, è che siano un ramo del nobile casato francese dei Ravaisse o Ravais, propagatosi nel Ducato di Milano, al seguito delle truppe di Luigi XIII, nel 1499. Originario, dunque, d'Yssingeaux, può vantare un Console, ossia Pierre, dottore in medicina, marito di Catherine de la Garde, nel 1663; un notaio reale ed un priore di St-Julien-du-Pinet, nel 1729. Anche in Italia, d'altronde, tal famiglia, sempre si distinse per gli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: cav. Francesco, dottore
