E' originaria di Svevia la famiglia stabilita, in Sicilia al tempo dell'imperatore Federico II, ove ottenne, secondo attesta il Toraldo nel "Il sedile e la Nobiltà di Tropea" ai 10 febbraio 1210, la signoria di Partinico. Verso la fine del secolo XIII passò in Calabria e Carlo II d'Angiò le dette un feudo nel 1262 nel territorio di Briatico, detto indi di F.; quello di Jacolino, nei pressi di Mileto nel 1288 e poi varii altri. Molto illustre resero questa famiglia alcuni suoi componenti per valentia nelle armi ed aiuti prestati ai Sovrani del tempo con fanti e cavalli, da meritarne pubbliche lodi e reali lettere, massime dopo la vittoria di Seminara vinta dal gran Capitano Consalvo di Cordova. Godette nobiltà in Tropea, ove questa famiglia coprirono, sin dal 1461, la carica di sindaco dei nobili.
