Antica ed assai nobile famiglia della Tuscia, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Essa ebbe prima dimora in Viterbo da donde poi passò in Roma. Nel XVI secolo fiorirono molti illustri personaggi, tra cui: il pubblico notaio Emilio Recchia e Angelo Recchia, cittadino romano, avvocato e luogotenente del senatore di Roma, nel 1531, e di Baldovino del Monte, fratello di Papa Giulio III, nel 1550. Si tramanda poi che un ramo di questa casata si sia portato nel Settentrione d'Italia e che, nel 1778, appartenesse al Consiglio nobile di Vicenza. Angelo ed Alberto Recchia vuolsi essere stati, dall’Imperatrice Maria Teresa d'Austria, decorati del titolo di Conti di Mantova, con Diploma 18 settembre 1743, non trasmissibile. Un altro ramo della famiglia Recchia fiorì nobilmente anche in Abruzzo. Primieramente ebbe dimora in Catignano per poi trapiantarsi in Penne, agli albori del XVII secolo. A
