Very ancient Spanish family of noble tradition, originally from France, which spread, since the fourteenth century, in various regions of Italy. Ascribed to the Spanish nobility since the 13th century, it is mentioned in the "Repertorio de blasones de la comunidad hispánica - letras MN-Ñ-OPQR of Vicente De Cadenas y Vicent Instituto Salazar y Castro". The first memories of this family are in 1285 when they fought in defense of the lands of Catalonia against the French invader, they were among the heroic soldiers who defended the Castelló de Ampuries y Perelada. In Italy the Regas are mainly mentioned in texts, deeds and contracts for the sale of land and houses, from which we have confirmation that they were of a wealthy and noble condition. A Giovanni, maestro di campo in Naples, flourished in the second half of the 16th century; the office was venal, i.e. freely receivable and transferable, consequently the scions of the high aristocracy could access the rank at a very early age and therefore find themselves in a good position to aspire to the higher ranks by seniority. An Antonio, who flourished in the seventeenth century, was a canon in Rome. In the 19th century a Francis was deputy to the subalpine parliament; a Gherardo was a famous architect in Naples.
