Família antiga originária de Reggio-Emilia, da qual recebeu o nome na nova pátria. Antonio, do falecido Rainero, junto com seus filhos Luigi, Filippo e Pietro, em 1411 foi atribuído à cidadania veronense e, no mesmo século, Filippo e Carlo eram cânones da Catedral de Verona. Antonio pertencia ao nobre Conselho em 1405, Luigi e Lodovico em 1517, Giovan-Pietro em 1582 e Bartolomeo em 1616, e essa foi a última atribuição desta casa. Outra família, também chamada Marescalchi, de Piacenza, transplantada para Verona, e Giovanni Marescalchi em 1441 foi reitor de S. Giusto, então igreja paroquial. Era costume, de fato, das famílias mais antigas, que após a queda do Império Romano, naquele "dilúvio dos bárbaros", tendo sobrenomes e posses perdidos e deixados apenas com nomes simples, novos sobrenomes, dos nomes dos paternos e dos principais.
